"Pansy" comes from the French "pensée," meaning "thought," for the bloom's resemblance to a pensive human face. Pansies come in a wide variety of colors and sizes, and are perfectly adapted to our cold Colorado months. Planted in the fall, pansies will survive the winter with occasional watering and will give your landscape beautiful color through the spring. Violas, sometimes called Johnny Jump Ups, are a simply a miniature version of a pansy, usually between the size of a nickel or a quarter. Both pansies and violas can be used in beds and containers, and the varieties can be mixed to create a stunning, textural display. Bulbs are your garden's spring suprise; planted in the fall, bulbs will sprout and bloom as the weather warms. Crocuses are the first real sign of spring, followed by tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths. These come in an ever-increasing array of colors, shapes and sizes, ensuring that they will suit any taste. OUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THIS FALL

 
Try mixing pansies and violas in your beds. Use the violas as a border for the pansies; you’ll love their happy faces, fragrance, and reseeding.
 
Try the Freefall series of pansies. These have vigorous growth and early blooms; best of all, they will trail and spread, making them perfect for both beds and containers.
 
Try mixing bulbs, pansies and violas in your perennial beds for a luxuriant display of colors in the spring.
