As per Plant Select, Columbine Design recommends the following plants which will perform particularly well in our Rocky Mountain climate.
- Red Feathers - Echium amoenum which is a long bloomer and likes our clay and sandy soil. I personally love the vibrant red color.
- Regal Torchlily - Kniphofia caulescens is a wild hot poker and will bloom in late summer. The tri-color bloom is spectacular.
- Prairie Lode Sundrops- Calylophus serrulatus 'Prairie Lode' - The bright yellow blossoms will brighten your most xeric location after it is established and will keep its compact shape through September.
Of course, you cannot go wrong with the Denver Daisy Rudbeckia which commemorates the 150th anniversary of the founding of Denver.
It's hot out there be sure to remember and water plants thoroughly to keep them from getting thirsty.
Happy Gardening!
